Playful patterns

Positioned in a private residential development in Kilmainham, Dublin, this apartment was in need of an urgent renovation. The entire interior was dated with old finishes at every step, a small open kitchen and an even smaller bathroom. The client asked us to change the layout of the apartment, to improve the circulation through the small hallways that were all the time blocked by numerous doors opening in it. We found a solution in using sliding doors for bathroom and living area. We designed a bigger kitchen that incorporates a breakfast bar and dining area with a comfortable bench. The floor throughout the apartment has been selected in a darker colour and we tamed it by choosing a natural timber finish on sliding doors and furniture. New electric radiators have been installed and new lighting fixtures are improving now the comfort in the apartment. To balance the darker neutral colours we used a very playful hexagonal pattern in the kitchen, with a focus on the yellow, grey and white tiles. This way, even in the gloomy rainy days, the apartment owner can enjoy a ray of sunshine in the heart of her house.
